As Americans, our love for breakfast food confounds reason. Some nutritionists believe it’s a scientific “attraction,” if you will. Television and film characters, such as Leslie Knope, often declare, “Why does anybody in the world ever eat anything but breakfast food?” Even Pippin, a Tolkien character, wants to when and where “second breakfast” will be held. Many folks believe that breakfast is so undeniably enticing because of the nutty, smoky coffee aroma, the sound of sizzling, caramelized bacon, and the sunny, pastelly aesthetic of a perfectly-flipped omelet. Thankfully, the best breakfast in New Braunfels will meet, nay, exceed every one of your wildest expectations. Thus, the team here at New Braunfels Escapes has compiled some observations about our favorite early-morning joints, serving up some of the tastiest buttermilk pancakes, three-egg omelets, and corned beef hash in Texas.
The Top 3 Breakfast Eateries in New Braunfels
1. Buttermilk Cafe
Many describe Buttermilk Cafe, the most popular breakfast hub in the region, as “cheerful” and “casual.” Yet, chef de cuisine Carol Irwin has mastered an upscale approach to classic comfort food. While Buttermilk Cafe is located in an unadorned, multi-business strip mall along Common Street, the interior’s dim lighting, attentive waitstaff, and dazzling plate presentation instantly indicate that you’re in for a real treat. Most patrons gush about the six-stack of buttermilk pancakes, but we cannot get our minds off the chicken-fried quail, house-cured salmon, and pulled pork breakfast tacos.
2. Avery’s Kitchen
Avery’s Kitchen, located in Freiheit Village, is still in its infancy as it opened its doors in 2018. However, residents and travelers alike aren’t afraid to label it “the best breakfast” in New Braunfels, primarily because of its unabashed devotion to archetypal comfort food. There’s nothing eccentric about Avery’s approach to omelets, huevos rancheros, French toast, and pancakes. These delectable concoctions are reminiscent of Grandma’s cookin’. Of note: The Hernandez family has over 40 years of restaurateur experience, mainly in Port Aransas.
3. Fork & Spoon
Fork & Spoon is a short stroll from the Guadalupe River, approximately 1.7 miles southeast of New Braunfels’ Main Plaza. The cafe operates in the C-shaped New Braunfels Marketplace near Interstate 35. It’s a spectacular “pit stop” for those looking for a high-quality bite in a surprisingly sleek (yet rustic) setting. Fork & Spoon’s team seemingly does it all: baked goods, German fare, and, of course, signature breakfasts. It’s one of the only cafes in town to offer crepes, Mediterranean omelets, and eggs benedict (done right!). These made-from-scratch dishes unquestionably rank amongst the tastiest breakfast in New Braunfels.
Guadalupe River Vacation Rentals
New Braunfels Escapes boasts the region’s grandest selection of Guadalupe River rentals, such as the Bluebonnet Cabin, Stairway to Heaven, and Remington River Retreat. Most of our homes and condo rentals feature direct river access, private acreage, private balconies, a community pool, and a newly-renovated kitchen. So, when you’re not munching on a memorable breakfast in the heart of New Braunfels, don’t forget to lounge in your quiet, semi-secluded paradise, far away from the city’s hustle. Other popular mid-day pursuits include countryside hiking, Canyon Lake relaxation, wine tastings, trout fishing, and, of course, Comal and Guadalupe River tubing.
